Gang Specific Resources
It is important for everyone to understand the conditions in their community that may contribute to successful gang structures. While many gangs may be cultural or generational in nature, other issues related to the functioning of families, schools and the local economy also contribute to the creation of gangs. Often parents are overwhelmed with employment obligations and other responsibilities and are unable to provide adequate supervision. Adolescents have a lot of free time with little or no pro-social opportunity provided in the community. Economic or educational constraints may limit the number of jobs available to community members. (Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, 2010)
