Give Back
The fundamental philosophy of the CROSS program is keeping our youth safe, healthy, and gang free. This requires the efforts of the entire community. Although formal community resources are essential in reaching this goal, informal resources, in the form of individual community members, is invaluable. Volunteering with our youth and young adults can be very beneficial to both youth and volunteer alike. Seeing volunteers give and appreciate helping others teaches youth how they can be productive and contributing members of their own neighborhoods.
Sharing your talents, skills, and culture gives CROSS participants the opportunity to learn and grow. Volunteers should be willing to show a genuine interest in participants and be able to teach by example how to be a responsible adult. When you give back in this way, you will find that youth, as well as volunteers, will come away from the experience with a more complete understanding of how they fit into their community and an appreciation of the rich diversity it has to offer.
